Craig R.Carney, Assoc. AIA-Building Design

Craig is an award-winning designer with over ten years of residential design experience including designing and building his own home.  His approach to design stems from both his education and hands-on experience.

Craig's interest in architecture began in high school when he took drafting classes and worked for his father's construction company during the summer months.  After earning his college degree he started his own design firm, Affordable Home Designs, as a part-time business venture.

In 2000, Craig went to work for Architects Northwest where he spent nearly three years under the direction of different architects.  It was during his time at Architects Northwest that he joined the American Institute of Architects. Craig credits his ability to work well in a team atmosphere to his time spent at Architects Northwest.

Craig joined the team at Estate Homes in 2002 where he started the building design department.  In his time at Estate Homes Design he's had the privilege of working on well over 100 design projects which serve as evidence of his beautiful, functional and innovative designs.

Education is an on-going process for Craig.  New materials, techniques and design ideas continue to be an important element in his service to our clients.  His research and study of "built green" methods have allowed him to make many suggestions involving energy saving and environmentally sound procedures.  When he learns of new building materials that bring added strength, function, durability or aesthetics, they're added to the building design.

Craig's challenge is to turn a vision into reality.  His background and continuing search for new ideas allows him to be effective in designing in any building style. Creating the plan is one thing.  Communicating it in a complete and understandable way is another.  He does this through accurate drawings and explanatory sessions.  It's easy for him to relate to the client through the entire process.  Since he has designed and built his own home, he has first hand knowledge of what they're through physically, emotionally and financially.  This empathy translates to a smoother, and more pleasant, experience for the client.

Cristin Young, Interior Designer

Since she was a little girl, Cristin knew she was going to be an interior designer.  At the age of thirteen, she started spending time with designers and learning anything she could.  Her career plan started to take shape in high school when she made a decision to enroll in the interior design program at Bellevue Community College where she later earned her degree.

Even as she attended college, Cristin began to build knowledge and experience working for design companies.  As an associate at Peter Swindley Architects, she continued her development as a full service interior designer.  Cristin, now with seven years of experience in the industry, was a welcome addition to our staff in 2008.

We're fortunate to have an interior designer of Cristin's caliber here at Estate Homes.  With a blend of style, function, color and texture she creates a beautiful ambiance throughout the living area.  She feels that her work in interior design gives her the opportunity, through her creative abilities, to make a difference in the lives of our clients.

Cristin is constantly expanding her knowledge by researching new products and resources.  Through reading, surfing the internet and one-on-one meetings with representatives she broadens her collection of tools she uses to create personalized designs for each of her clients.  The right mixture of color, material and texture can make a dramatic difference in the end result.  There's always something new available in countertops, tile, flooring or fixtures.  Cristin makes it her responsibility to stay on top of anything that will help her clients realize their dream.

Frank Howell, Cabinet Design

Frank has been designing cabinets for twenty-four years.  His career began with a residential general contracting firm, Rainier Woodworking of King County, giving him the opportunity to manage his projects as well as design them.  In addition to cabinetry, his project responsibilities included countertops, plumbing and electrical fixtures, flooring, doors and windows.  During his time in the industry, Frank has worked extensively with over fifteen cabinet lines ranging from modular to fully custom cabinetry. This well-rounded background provides him with a keen eye for cabinet layout and a solid working knowledge of field operations.

Over the years he has worked on projects of all descriptions.  This diversity has allowed him to design cabinetry in all living spaces such as kitchens, baths, home office, theater, library and laundry to name a few.  Through these design processes, he's gained valuable experience in the total project concept. Frank has been creating imaginative cabinet designs with Estate Homes since 2006.
